ON THE NING NANG NONG

I've just become a member of a Ning thing - Gaming Learning and Libraries. Looks interesting. Just waiting to be accepted. I had to list my favourite game (which is scrabble) - I wonder whether membership is dependent on what game I've put in. It was hard to choose coz I love most word games including scattergories, upwords and boggle.
Here's a photo of me at last year's Stress Down day at the Library. Bring it on.... will have to buy some new PJ's - these ones are so last year! (and so the year before and the year before and the year before!)

His Majesty

My son took this photo from our back verandah. He (the eagle) stayed for an hour. When he took off, his wingspan was huge. Wish I had seen him myself.

I've just been watching the very cute video about wikis. How simple this form of instruction makes it!

I'm wanting to follow blogs from the other staff at Noosa but it's hard to remember what everybody has called themselves. After watching this video, now I think I'll create a link on our library wiki - our staff will be able to add in their own name and their blog name. Easy!!!

Dragonflies

I'm not sure if this is going to work because I cannot see the photo I have imported from flickr. The edit boxes are there... maybe readers could imagine a beautiful dragonfly sitting on a stem of a lovely purple flower. I love butterflies and dragonflies; they are beautiful to look at and know how to be still and they also know how to be adventurous, flitting from flower to flower. If this doesn't work, I shall try, try again!

It hasn't worked after many attempts. Perhaps it is copyrighted!! Oops!!

I just tried popping in a photo of my own... (boys and bubbles... quickly deleted!) and it worked.

I am not, not, not giving up!
Hooray!!! After finally realising I needed to find a dragonfly image that was not copyrighted under the "Creative Commons Attribution" etc. I then downloaded a smaller image and saved it to my computer. I then "browsed" from my computer and uploaded image. Unfortunately it is not the beautiful dragonfly that I wanted to upload - that photo was, understandably, copyright.
After originally thinking it was really easy (and it is when you know what you are doing!), I have learned a lot from that little exercise.

Yahoo for holidays

Well... I'm on holidays as at 5.30 this afternoon. I'm sure it'll go quickly but I don't care!

I'm half way through the second tutorial but I think I'll be far too busy doing nothing to get to the rest til at least next week.

I thought of commencing an exercise program next week, but I got tired just thinking about it. I'd rather hang around in my purple pj's. That's me in my purple pj's at last year's Stress Down day at Noosa Library. It was great fun and I hope we get to do it again this year.

Healing power of books

I love books .... (now that's a surprise from someone who works in libraries!!) I especially love old books. A dear friend recently gave me a copy of Requiem and Other Poems by Rainer Maria Rilke. I was so touched by my friend's thoughtfulness. Literary works such as these really take me somewhere far away. Books more than anything else in my life have that power. They offer a meditative journey, a chance to be transported. When I return to reality, I am much more centred. I find reading a good book as valuable as meditation.

I've never known any trouble that an hour's reading didn't assuage. Charles De Secondat (1689 - 1755)

First Post not the Last

Well here I am.... entered into a world of my own creation!

I think blogs can be very healthy if created and used for the right reasons. It is a great way for people to express themselves when sometimes they have no one around them to talk to, or no one who will truly listen. Blogs can also be venomous and acidic too, so it is a matter of choosing what to focus on and blogging for a positive reason.

Blogs can be great information tools. My husband has a music program on his computer and logs on to a blog to read about problems and successes that others have with this program. It also enables him to communicate with people around the world with his own questions.

The world seems so much smaller with Blogs.
